Two Hidden Northern Door Galleries that are Well Worth the Hunt… July 26-27

“Location, location, location,” takes on a new meaning when stepping “off-the-beaten-path” leads to the charm of discovery at two hidden artist’s galleries in northern Door County.

Ellison Wonderland

Explore the Door’s rustic Ellison Bay backwoods pathways, winding your way down Cottage and Garrett Bay Roads, to arrive at these two  hidden gems. Door County’s hermit artists, Jim Maronek and R.D. Bentley will open their studio doors on July 26 – 27 from 10 am to 5 pm knowing that it’s both “the journey and the destination” which reward their gallery visitors with “bouquets of art in a gallery of gardens.”

Jim Maronek’s Silver Poplar Studios will feature the unveiling of “The Icon of St. Kreditus,” on display at his “Ellison Wonderland” gallery in the barn. Jim offers a free shot of Russian vodka in celebration of the unique icon to anyone over 21, who is sober upon arrival and who is descended from the Romanov dynasty and able to prove it.

The Maronek’s incredible Russian estate and their ever-expanding, fanciful gardens may harbor plein air painters during the event at 1519 E. Door Bluff Road… Call if you get lost: 920.854.2106.

The RD Bentley Studio & Gallery has a display of new art called “Faces” …lots of them in sporting situations (original oils). You may also enjoy Bentley’s ongoing series, “Flights of Fancy” and his whimsical local landscapes (available in giclee prints and original oils). All of this and magnificently more, in a garden setting on back roads leading to Bentley’s charming setting at 1076 N. Elm Road. Call if you get lost: 920.854.6866.
