Encore Local Screening of Wisconsin Public Television’s Feature, Jazz at Birch Creek, June 21

Birch Creek is presenting a very special encore screening of WPT’s Jazz at Birch Creek on Thursday, June 21 at 7 pm in the Dutton Concert Barn at Birch Creek.

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) Producer, Deb Piper, will be on hand to present the film Jazz at Birch Creek, and to answer questions about the making of the film. Jazz at Birch Creek has many local ties. Several students from Wisconsin will be featured in the program as is faculty member David Bixler, who was born and raised in Racine.

Wisconsin Public Television’s technical staff and production crew originally visited the Birch Creek Music Performance Center campus, 3 miles east of Egg Harbor in Door County, on a hot day in July, 2010. Measurements and photographs were taken during that first visit and many questions regarding the historic performance barn, lighting and natural acoustics were asked in preparation for WPT’s 2011 filming of a live performance featuring Birch Creek’s Academy Jazz Orchestra as well as the Student Jazz Bands.

“Birch Creek was the pioneer of many planned WPT production opportunities to educate, inform and engage Wisconsin communities,” says James Steinbach, Director of Television, at WPT. “We are proud partners of parents and a friend for children. In the coming year, our new mobile production truck will expand our coverage of the state’s arts and culture.”

Birch Creek immediately welcomed and supported the WPT endeavor since it fit nicely within the mission statement of the Birch Creek organization: To provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment.

In January 2012, WPT staff returned to Birch Creek and presented a preview of the film “Jazz at Birch Creek.” The film was then broadcast on WPT and streamed on The Wisconsin Channel, as well as other public access channels from Wisconsin to Rochester, New York, over the past several months.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested. Please call 920.868.3763 to reserve your seat today.
