The light from distant stars has been traveling many light years to get here, so what you are seeing tonight may have been initially transmitted millions of years ago. The starry night skies are usually invisible to city dwellers where ambient light overwhelms the pinpoints of light in the sky. On Friday the Perseid Meteor Shower begin to intensify, taking place between August 8 and 14, peaking on about August 12.
