LMVDC Fed up with Walker’s Budget Bill and Right Wing Robo-call Impersonations

The League of Women Voters of Door County (LWVDC) continues to hear about confusing robo-calls people have received in Door County and across the state of Wisconsin.

The recorded message seems to indicate that the League supports Governor Walker’s “budget repair” bill. The name of the organization is slurred at the beginning of the message, but the end of the call identifies the League of American Voters (LAV), a Washington-based right-wing group.

Some of the people who have contacted the League of Women Voters about these venomous robo-calls were angry until we assured them that these calls are not coming from the League of Women Voters and that we do not support the Governor’s bill.  Others have been sympathetic because they know the League of Women Voters is being scammed.  Not one person has contacted the League to thank us for the message!

Make no mistake, the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin (LWV WI ) opposes the Governor’s budget proposals, based on long-held positions including support of adequately funded government, public transportation and accessibility of health care to all citizens. We particularly oppose the Governor’s attempt to strip public employees of bargaining rights they have held for 50 years in a matter of 5 days.

To make matters worse, when the League of Women Voters objects to the robo-calls, the LAV uses our objections to raise money!  It is time for the LAV to clean up its intentionally misleading communications, which only serve to increase the tensions in our Wisconsin.
