After their latest basketball victory, reporter Scott Venci at the Green Bay Press Gazette takes notice of the Gibraltar Vikings in today’s paper.

In “Scott Venci’s Countdown” he says, “The Gibraltar Boys Basketball Team isn’t threatening Oconto for the Packerland Conference title, but the Vikings quietly are closing in on their first .500 season in more than a decade.”

Coach Myles Dannhausen Jr. is also a journalist, reporting for the Peninsula Pulse, one of the last few independent news publications still rolling the presses in Door County (the other one is the Washington Island Observer).

Myles tells Venci, “Gibraltar has suffered through a lot of lean years with winless seasons or only a couple victories. These kids have worked hard to reverse a culture of losing.”

It’s also a treat to learn about the “glory days” of the Gibraltar Boys Basketball Team and several of my old friends who are now “grown-ups.” Thanks to the latest Pulse for rekindling some great memories in “Unbeatable; The 1968-69 Gibraltar Vikings nearly were.” That was then, and this: GibraltarBasketball.com is now!

With four games left in their regular season, you can see the Gibraltar Boys Basketball Team at home live on Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 pm when they play Kewaunee at Gibraltar High School and on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 pm when they play NEW Lutheran. Go Vikings!
