Edgewood Orchard Galleries Opens “Door County Treasures” Exhibit with Reception and Demonstrations, May 26-27

Memorial Day Weekend at Edgewood Orchard Galleries will begin with a featured exhibiting artists’ reception on Saturday, May 26 from 4 – 7 pm followed by demonstrations on Sunday May 27 beginning at 1 pm.

Door County clay artists David and Jeanne Aurelius, California jeweler Marcia McDonough, Colorado sculptor James G. Moore and Wisconsin painter William A Suys, Jr. will be introduced at 5 pm in the gallery courtyard, followed by their brief remarks the about the artwork in the exhibit. The artists and artwork comprise a group show entitled “Door County Treasures.” Refreshments will be served and everyone is encouraged to attend.

On Sunday, May 27, David and Jeanne will return to the gallery courtyard from 1 – 3 pm demonstrating the methods they use to create their signature stoneware pieces including David’s work that is featured on the cover of this year’s Door Peninsula Art’s Guide. The husband and wife team will answer questions while they demonstrate the various steps in their creative process.

Traveling here from his home in Colorado, Bronze sculptor James G. Moore will also demonstrate the methods he uses to create his distinctive bronze bells on Sunday afternoon. You can see several of his works in the sculpture garden, ranging from an outdoor Heron Bell that stands over nine feet tall to several antique-style bronze door bells that he recently completed.

The gallery’s highly-regarded sculpture garden and stone walkways have been dramatically expanded this year. Visitors are invited to enjoy strolling through the forested gardens to experience more than over two-dozen new sculptures on display, featuring an expanding collection of works by nationally recognized sculptors.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, 1 block east of Hwy. 42 midway between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. Opened on June 29, 1969 by Irene Haberland and her daughter Anne, the gallery is now in its 44th season and under the direction of a third generation of family ownership.
