Birch Creek Music Performance Center Faculty Members in the Spotlight, Cynthia Stark and Tubby the Tuba, July 2

Not often is the tuba scored as a solo instrument in orchestral music.

Cynthia Stark

On July 2, Birch Creek Pops Concert goers will hear the tuba in a new light as Associate Faculty member Cynthia Stark will be featured on a piece called Tubby the Tuba. This charming and fanciful work by George Kleinsinger is about a tuba trying to find a melody. The engaging storyline will be narrated by bass faculty member Alan Steiner.

In spite of its childlike name, the appeal of the piece is much deeper, showcasing the immense range of the tuba as well as its ability to play rapid passages and sweeping melodies seldom heard from the low brass instrument.
