Peninsula Music Festival Accepting Door County Student Applications for College Scholarship

Door County public high school graduating seniors who seek a college degree in music are eligible to apply for this three-year, $1,000 per year, scholarship awarded by the Peninsula Music Festival (PMF).

The PMF is now accepting applications for its college scholarship. This three-year, $1,000 per year, scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music. The recipient must be an outstanding music student who has demonstrated his or her ability as a performer and has shown a sustained interest in music-related activities. Also, the student must major or minor in music while attending college.

To apply, a student must write an essay outlining his or her qualifications, including accomplishments in music, future plans, academic achievements, high school transcripts and any other information he or she feels is appropriate for this music scholarship. Letters of recommendation must be sent from one music professional and from the student’s high school principal. An application blank is available at the PMF’s Website: MusicFestival.com along with complete instructions. Information is also available from principals, guidance counselors and music teachers at each of the Door County public high schools.

The Executive Committee of the PMF Board of Directors will review applications and select the recipient. Applications must be received at the office of PMF by April 15, 2011 and the recipient will be notified by April 29, 2011. A certificate will be presented at the annual awards ceremony at winner’s school. The scholarship will be awarded starting at the beginning of his or her second year of college and continuing until the beginning of the senior year of college. The award must be utilized for educational expenses. At the end of each academic year, beginning with the completion of the freshman year, the recipient is expected to furnish the Peninsula Music Festival with a brief progress report and proof of registration for the following academic year with a major or minor in music.
