Garden Gables is located on five, picturesque acres outside of Sister Bay, Wisconsin – the perfect backdrop for your special event!

After successfully hosting their own wedding with more than 400 guests in June, 2014 it was a “no-brainer” as to what owners James and Kayla Larsen should do with their restored farm property. Garden Gables Farm now offers a gorgeous and whimsical wedding event setting for couples who seek the unusual.

“There is always a beautiful cross breeze and so many trees surrounding the property, making it so quiet and peaceful.  In the summer, there’s a water feature and stream that is constantly running which you can hear in the backdrop.  That, paired with the lovely trellis and gazebo, is truly a magical setting,” says Door County Today’s reporter, Laurel Ciohon.

Welcoming weddings as well as artists, singers, cooking schools, book clubs, non profits and business groups to utilize the beautiful grounds and areas of  The Hillside Inn of Ephraim.

As the new owner of the Hillside, it is Diane Taillon‘s primary focus to find new and creative ways to open this classic inn to tourists and residents alike as a true boutique hotel. The Inn features five beautiful suites (four with water views) plus two cottages with fireplaces and elegant bathrooms. The luxurious Hillside Inn of Ephraim, located in the heart of one of Door County’s most picturesque villages, reopened in January, 2016 after a complete renovation. Careful attention was paid to preserving the original integrity and simplicity of this white-painted landmark, one that has welcomed travelers to Door County since the late 1800’s.

The Inn is one of the most iconic buildings in Ephraim and Door County, making it the centerpiece of almost every photo taken of the Ephraim village landscape. The restored historical inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with all the amenities of a luxury hotel and was one of the first hotels ever in Ephraim. The Inn is lovingly owner-operated by Diane Taillon with assistance from Carrie Counihan and Carol Schalla. Her team also runs Diane’s luxury real estate company, Arbor Crowne Properties, with offices located in The Hillside.

It’s time to revive a real classic Door County wedding tradition…

Jerry Voelker and the Jolly Gents have been performing for almost fifty years. The band has played in the Midwest, Russia, China, Mexico, Europe, Hawaii and on a number of cruises. The five-piece band plays a variety of styles including Czech, German polkas and waltzes, and modern jitterbug and polka masses.

“Our crowd is old and getting older,” says Jerry Voelker, who has led Jerry Voelker & the Jolly Gents for almost five decades. “I doubt I’ll ever see it come back the way it was. We used to play weddings all the time. The last wedding we played for was in Oshkosh. That must be seven or eight years ago. He was 76 and she was 74.” – from Polka Dotage: Jerry Voelker Is Getting Less Calls to Play Polka by Jim Lundstrom, Peninsula Pulse, September 18, 2015.

Capturing real life as it unfolds…

Kelly Avenson says it best, “I love faces and the stories behind them. Photography allows me to tell a story, be it the story of a brand new baby, a high school graduate, a couple in love or a time spent on the beach playing in the sand with your kids. Everyone’s story is so unique and I am one fortunate woman to be able to capture that on film for you to treasure and share with those you love. Professor, Pastor and Author Bruce H. Joffe, Ph.D., believes that God’s love is experienced transformationally—through compassion shown to others and social justice for all.

With a Christian orientation and doctorate in communication, Pastor Bruce Joffe is ordained by the International Council of Community Churches, the Progressive Christian Alliance, and the Unitarian Emerging Christian Church. He requests time to meet and get to know couples who are planning a marriage before conducting the wedding service.

“You can’t box God up in religion. You can’t box Jesus up in Christianity. You can’t box church up in a building. You can’t box faith up in a set of beliefs. You can’t box grace up in conditions. The Kingdom of God isn’t boxed up in our churches. Imagine church without pulpits or pews, creeds or confessionals-no membership, plate-passing, pledges, vestments, heavenly choirs, or altar calls. Without buildings to maintain or staff to sustain, the church no longer is seen as a private club or guilt-trip haven to heaven. Instead, its focus is on caring and sharing, living here-and-now, not in the hereafter. Rather than part of our worldly empires, the church has become their antithesis. From guts to glory, the church begets reform.” – My Name Is Heretic: Reforming the Church, from Guts to Glory (Paperback – November 21, 2015 by Bruce H. Joffe)
