Door Community Auditorium’s Souper Movies Series continues with the classic Woody Allen movie, Annie Hall on Saturday, February 12, at 2:00 pm.

Please remember that tickets are not required with a donation of canned food goods to benefit Door County Feed My People.

Annie Hall, released in 1977, was written and directed by Woody Allen. Allen also stars as a pessimistic, neurotic, New York comedian, Alvy Singer, while Diane Keaton plays his equally neurotic and ditsy girlfriend, Annie Hall, who is also a talented singer and photographer. While their personalities are quite opposing, they are instantly attracted to each other upon meeting and awkward, yet endearing, conversations result.

Dubbed with the tagline “a nervous romance,” Annie Hall is a comedy that shows the development of Alvy and Annie’s not-so-unique relationship from its romantic beginning to its problematic end. The film illustrates a distraught Alvy, who, after breaking up with his girlfriend, is desperately trying to analyze their relationship and devise where it went wrong. While the movie is generally categorized as a comedy, the film also has many sad moments concerning the natural progression of relationships to which numerous people can personally relate.

In addition to the very bizarre characters portrayed by Allen and Keaton, Annie Hall is a unique movie in the aspect that Woody Allen often leaves the scene he is in to talk directly to the audience about his thoughts and feelings in the current situation. Allen also enters other characters’ stories and even uses animation at certain points in the film. Other notable actors that appear in Annie Hall include Tony Roberts, Carol Kane, Paul Simon, Shelley Duvall, and Christopher Walken. The film won four Oscar Awards.
