A Door County resident since 1973, Charles L. Peterson has established a national and international reputation for his paintings and limited edition reproductions. A Marietta College professor and department head for 20 years, Peterson has applied his classical training to genre painting, his brush strokes illuminating the lives of ordinary people doing ordinary things, most often in historical settings. His interest in nature – particularly the sea – is evident throughout his work. A lifelong sailor, water has been a dominating theme in his paintings and illustrations. He has twice won the Thomas M. Hoyne Award for work representing particular aspects of the marine fishing industry and is listed as a Modern Marine Master by the Mystic Maritime Museum Gallery.
