Jonathan will be attending the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in the fall.  Each year the Peninsula Music Festival awards a $3000 scholarship to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music. The recipient must be an outstanding music student, who has demonstrated his or her ability as a performer and has shown a sustained interest in music-related activities. Also, the student must major or minor in music while attending college.

Applicants must write an essay outlining his or her qualifications, including accomplishments in music, future plans, academic achievements, high school transcripts, and any other information he or she feels is appropriate for this music scholarship.  Letters of recommendation must be sent from a music professional and from the student’s high school principal.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors then reviews the applications and selects a recipient. The Peninsula Music Festival Scholarship is awarded for three years beginning with the sophomore year and continuing through the senior year. The recipient must send an annual update plus proof of continuing registration as a music student

“This year the Festival received five outstanding applications representing Washington Island, Gibraltar, Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door High Schools,” says PMF  Executive Director Sharon Grutzmacher. “The choice was very tough. Each of these schools can be very proud of their students. I know everyone involved with the selection process was very impressed!”

In his essay, Jonathan Conjurske highlights his long-standing participation in musical activities as well as his academic achievements. In addition to his involvement in the Southern Door High School music programs, Jonathan participated in the Green Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Bay Area Music Association Honors Band.

Jonathan will be honored at the Tuesday, August 16 concert of the Peninsula MusicFestival. He and his family will attend as guests of the Festival. He will also have the opportunity to meet Music Director and Conductor Victor Yampolsky as well as the soloist for the evening, violinist Ilya Kaler.

The Peninsula Music Festival is a professional symphony orchestra presenting ninedifferent symphonic concerts in three weeks each August. The Festival also presents a February season of Chamber Concerts and has an extensive internship and scholarship program. The 59th August Symphonic Season will run August 2 through 20 with concerts every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Tickets are available for all concerts.
