The upcoming spring exhibit Artist’s Reception in Gills Rock on Saturday, May 8 from 3-5 pm at Gallery 10, spotlights paintings in luminous pastels by artist Denise Bunkert.
Entitled “Nature’s Wings: The Butterfly Collection,” Bunkert’s paintings explore transformative nature and the inner workings of the human spirit, through reflective vantage points and shimmering butterfly wings.
“Attentiveness to the essence of each picture, the ability to dance with nature’s light and shadow, to play the instruments of color, rhythm and movement, until a chord of harmony is brushed; these are the true spectacles of a painter,” says Denise Bunkert.
Brilliant layers of color permeate her natural palette in these paintings inspired by the transformative and unique lives of butterflies. She uses nature, music and poetry to inspire her art. According to Bunkert, “the inherent beauty of the natural world has long been a part of my consciousness and spirituality.”
As a distinguished member of Lake Country Pastel Society and the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota, Denise Bunkert exhibits regularly at various juried shows and has received many awards. Her painting, “A Wing and A Prayer” recently received an award in a juried competition at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center Gallery. Currently, her work is represented by Gallery 10, Ripple River Gallery (Aitkin, MN) and Crossings Gallery (Zumbrota, MN).
Denise Bunkert has solely published a limited edition book of paintings and poems, Essence: Nature in Vision & Verse (2005), and a recent collaboration, Mirrors of the Soul: Reflections on Life’s Seasons (2009), with English poet Richard Whitfield. Through this process of creation, she continues to explore the range of internal and external human conditions that shape or break our spirits; and of the fragile nature of the human soul– journeying from infancy to adult wings of consciousness.
The exhibit will be open to the public Saturday, May 8 through May 30, 2010. Gallery 10 will be hosting an artists’ reception Saturday, May 8 from 3 to 5 pm. This reception is free and open to the public. Come enjoy complementary treats while you meet the artist and hear her speak on reflections of her artwork at 4 pm.
