Applications are now available for 2010 United Way of Door County Endowment Fund Grants.
The United Way Board of Directors established this fund in 1997 to assist in the future financial stability for the organization and our community. They are pleased to announce that the amount of money available for Endowment Fund Grants for the calendar year 2010 is $3,293.00, which is $1,200.00 more than was made available in 2009.
A Request for Proposals for community projects is available at this time. Proposed projects should be something new and innovative in the county, something that is not typically funded with campaign dollars. Last year’s grant recipients were the American Red Cross to put towards the new Transportation Voucher Program in Door County, and the Door County AODA Coalition to help offset the costs involved in producing and distributing the DVD “With Whom Will it End?”
Some previous recipients include: A Washington Island Preschool Grant to build a fence that separates the playground from the road, and The Door County University of Wisconsin-Extension Office Grant to deliver a new community program called “Caring for My Family”.
Proposals will be awarded based on grant application criteria. The United Way of Door County’s Vision Statement and Mission Statement will be used as guidelines for distribution of funds. Approved grant money must be used for the specified purpose within a specified amount of time, or returned to the United Way of Door County Endowment Fund.
“At United Way of Door County we feel the number one quality that makes Door County special is the people who live here – our neighbors,” states Eric Paulsen, Endowment Committee Chair. “One way that we can have a positive impact on our neighbor’s lives and our community is with our Endowment Fund. The Board of Directors wants to ensure that your United Way can continue to meet the ever-changing needs that arise within the county.”
The United Way of Door County Endowment Fund is made up of monetary gifts that are specifically designated to the Endowment Fund. These gifts are often in the form of memorials or gifts in honor of someone. That money is then invested in the Endowment Fund with the Door County Community Foundation. At the end of each fiscal year 5 percent of the fund can be used to finance community projects.
Application forms, along with the Vision and Mission Statements, are available at the United Way office, 57 N. 3rd Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, by calling 920.746.9645, or visiting their website at www.unitedwaydc.com. Proposals should be submitted to:
