Get Door County Transportation Consortium’s Door-Tran half-price Travel Vouchers

Since 2006, the Door County Transportation Consortium has been busy researching transportation needs in Door County and has implemented programs to decrease barriers and to promote more affordable, available and accessible transportation.

Led by United Way of Door County through start up funds from the Door County Community Foundation, the Consortium, and an active Governing Council, Door-Tran has implemented free car pool matching, produced and distributed a transportation resource guide, and a half-price travel voucher system. Door-Tran also continues an information and referral phone system, website, and a full-time Mobility Manager.

Through research, it was found that affordability was a large concern for many residents of Door County. In an effort to make transportation more affordable a free Car Pool Matching Program was started by Door-Tran in November 2008 complimented by WEP, Inc’s Door County Transportation Options Program offering a Guaranteed Ride Home Program for individuals using the matching service for employment car pools.

The Travel Voucher Program allows for residents who reside in Door County at least six months out of the year to purchase travel vouchers at half-price. A $5.00 value voucher or a pack of five $1.00 vouchers can be purchased for $2.50 and a $10.00 value voucher or a pack of ten $1.00 vouchers for $5.00. Business, organizations, and agencies may also purchase Door-Tran Travel Vouchers for their customers, however they will purchase at full-price with the option to give them away to their customers or charge the half-price cost.

To date, the Voucher Program has served over 125 residents purchasing travel vouchers. A resident may purchase up to $200 in value vouchers per months and the vouchers are valid for six months. Currently, the American Red Cross, Door County Senior Resource Center, Door County/Green Bay Shuttle, Door County Island Hopper, Fresh Air Cabs, Service Taxi Cab, Sunshine House Inc, and the Washington Island Community Van accept the vouchers.

Door-Tran and WEP, Inc partnered in 2008 to have the first ever Transportation Fair and are currently selling raffle tickets as their 2009 fundraiser. Anyone interested in supporting these wonderful transportation programs by purchasing raffle tickets or donating a prize may call Door-Tran.

WEP, Inc’s Door County Transportation Options Program, a member of the Consortium, received funds from the WisDOT to begin an employment van pool which travels from Sturgeon Bay to Northern Door up to seven day per week. Anyone interested in learning more about this as a rider or a volunteer driver may contact Kim at 920.743.6915 ext 110.
