Door County YMCA Board of Directors Announce Lay-Off Grant Program
Posted on 18. Feb, 2009 by Erin Hoffman in Community Services
With the Door County YMCA commitment to be a good neighbor and to make YMCA participation affordable for everyone in our community, the Door County YMCA Board of Directors has approved a new Economic Down-Turn Lay-Off Grant Program for current YMCA members during their time of crisis. This membership grant program will provide financial assistance to current adult members
who have a demonstrated need by granting the adult membership dues fee to the member for a period of up to sixty days.
“It is important for us to be a good neighbor, especially during a time of need in our community.” says Door County YMCA CEO Dan Powell. “This grant allows members to keep using the YMCA for a period of time to maintain some normalcy and an opportunity for healthy living when life stressors are at their worst.”
This program is also available to members with a family membership and the member would just need to pay the difference between the adult granted membership fee and the family membership fee. YMCA members interested in grant assistance can request a grant from the membership welcome center at either branch by sharing documentation in regard to their laid-off status from their employer. They will then receive the financial assistance with their bank drafts as long as they continue to use the YMCA at least once each week. If the member remains unemployed beyond sixty days and ongoingfinancial assistance is required, they can be referred to apply for the Circle Of Friends scholarship program, which is funded by the Strong Kids Campaign.
The Circle of Friends Scholarship Program is always available and anyone that feels they cannot include the cost of a YMCA membership into their monthly budget should consider this program. The monthly membership rate is based on household size and household income. Interested community members can easily prequalify themselves by looking at the sliding fee scale available on the website and in the Y Program Guide. It’s easy to apply and the entire process is confidential.
