Free Door County YMCA Memberships for Military Personnel and Families

The Door County YMCA is participating in a YMCA Military Outreach Initiative launched by the YMCA of the USA, the Armed Services YMCA and the Department of Defense, to provide YMCA memberships to families through their Military OneSource Program. This program provides FREE YMCA Family memberships in order to address the needs of families of deployed military personnel who live far from a military installation and require access to child development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programming.

The Door County YMCA is pleased to be able to offer memberships to military families and personnel serving our country. “This is a wonderful opportunity to extend a well-deserved thank you and appreciation for all that military personnel do for us here in our community and for our country” said Dan Powell, CEO of the Door County YMCA. “Deployment can be difficult on not only military personnel, but also on the families they leave behind and the Door County YMCA is honored to reach out with a way to help these sacrificing families.” YMCAs across the nation are participating in this initiative, which leverages the YMCA movement’s national scale and mission to engage families facing the hardship and uncertainty of military deployment. Powell stated, “it may seem that during these tough economic times the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are no longer at the forefront of our national concern, but we have not forgotten all that our military is doing for the U.S. and this program is a small way of saying we remember and thank you for all that you are doing to our military families.”

Eligible military families and personnel include: family members of deployed National Guard and Reservists in any military branch, Active Duty families who live in one of the selected Joint Bases created by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, Active Duty Independent Duty personnel and their families as approved by their Military Service Headquarters, Relocated spouses and family members of deployed Active Duty personnel.

To enroll, eligible military families and personnel can follow two easy steps:

  1. Contact Military OneSource at www.militaryonesource.com or 800-342-9647 to confirm eligibility and receive an eligibility form.
  2. Fill out the eligibility form and bring it along with Military ID and a copy of your Deployment Orders or Military Service Headquarters approval letter) to the Door County YMCA, and the YMCA will process your membership right away.
