Saturday Night at the bowling alley…

Cherry LanesYesterday, just before deadline, I got the following e-mail from my timeless friend Pat, who likes to see his name spelled with a capital A… I added in the links.

“hey! i (pat mAcdonald) will be playing THIS SATURDAY September 6 with FOXY VERONICA’S PEACH PIES, Madison’s queens of “Caburlesque” at CHERRY LANES Rock ‘n Bowl in Sturgeon Bay. This will be a unique, fun evening, initiating the new, more ambitious programming of events at this promising venue. My friend Ben Dowland recently left his position at the Barrymore Theater in Madison to come here and spearhead Cherry Lanes’ accelerated live music program. Look for more and more interesting things happening at Cherry Lanes in the future. And come prepared to help kick it off this Saturday!  xo,p”

I know you are wondering, so I did the Googling… Caburlesque is cabaret and burlesque, much like a grilled cheese, all squishy and hot. A London group with the same name performed recently on Britain’s Got Talent. Caburlesque’s Web site really spells it out clearly.

Searching Foxy Veronica’s Peach Pies on MySpace will deliver 21 pages of links… and their profile currently has 803 photos! You do the ogling, now and later. The show starts at 10 PM on Saturday, September 6. Cherry Lanes is located on 4th Street in downtown Sturgeon Bay.

Pat may have just found the perfect counterpoint to his gritty, sensual, musical poetry. It should be a bountiful mix, not to be missed.

Last night on Episode 13 of America’s Got Talent, Eli Mattson sang “Nobody Knows It But Me,” and advanced to the Top Ten. I called in my votes and anxiously look forward to his next appearance. In case you missed it, Eli sat at a concert grand piano and once again, wowed the audience and the judges.

At the end of Eli’s performance, host Jerry Springer asks Eli, “When you finish that song and you listen to the judges and the people all get to their feet… Do you want to bottle that moment?”

Eli quickly responds, “Ummm, nah, I want to drink it up and do it again!”

Stay tuned… for the finals and help Eli capture more hearts and $1 million. Here’s his latest performance:

MSNBC reports, “Bluesy pianist and singer Eli Mattson also earned high praise from the judges with an impassioned version of “Nobody Knows.” Considering the range of shenanigans and gimmicks we’ve seen this season, Osbourne summed up Mattson’s performance best, saying, “No dancers, no fire, no backing track. Just talent.”
